A New Litany In The Month of the Sacred Heart

Heart of Jesus, Heart of God
Heart of Jesus, God's own radiant heart
Heart of Jesus, who cares that I exist
Heart of Jesus, calling us friends
Heart of Jesus, salvation from our un-doing

Heart of Jesus, God's kind disposition towards us
Heart of Jesus, over-sized to contain the world
Heart of Jesus, God's mercy taken flesh
Heart of Jesus, alive and dynamic
Heart of Jesus, inviting, Do not be afraid

Heart of Jesus, God's practical kindness
Heart of Jesus, un-deserved gift
Heart of Jesus, who calls forth what is best in us
Heart of Jesus, of our relational God
Heart of Jesus, God's marital intimacy

Heart of Jesus, home of divine promises
Heart of Jesus, channel of mercy
Heart of Jesus, display of divine compassion
Heart of Jesus, forgiving of our folly
Heart of Jesus, divine sensitivity

Heart of Jesus, judgment and mercy co-existing
Heart of Jesus, our rescue
Heart of Jesus, who sees what is good in us
Heart of Jesus, mercy for the demon possessed
Heart of Jesus, compassion without our asking

Heart of Jesus, in our global affliction
Heart of Jesus, offering, That you may have joy
Heart of Jesus, we await your pity
Heart of Jesus, the opening of God's kindness
Heart of Jesus, reaching where we do not see

Heart of Jesus, inviting us to new awareness
Heart of Jesus, for those we do not love
Heart of Jesus, amidst the wars and hatreds
Heart of Jesus, in our wounds and regrets
Heart of Jesus, where we fail each other

Heart of Jesus, our liberation to love
Heart of Jesus, in our human dilemma
Heart of Jesus, in our sickness and self-loathing
Heart of Jesus, in our addictions and alienation
Heart of Jesus, in our inner land of shadows

  1. Heart of Jesus burning for me! Thank you Father Stephen. Happy Father's day.

  2. The symbolic image of Christ’s heart burning with love for us, even in our indifference and ingratitude shows His infinite love. Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque had this advice: "If you feel yourself frail and weak, lapsing into faults at every moment, go to the Sacred Heart and draw from it the strength which will invigorate and revive you." This Litany certainly brings that strength to our weakness.

  3. Is this new as in original by you Father? It is a wonderfully written Litany. There are so many lines that I can identify with, but I think that "Heart of Jesus, inviting, Do not be afraid" really says so much. If we let Jesus into our own hears so many of our problems would go away.

  4. A most interesting image for this different litany. I can only recall seeing the Sacred Heart of Jesus with a crown of thorns or even a lance piercing the heart. This one really shows the flames though. Really on fire to save us.

    1. For me, this image shows Jesus in a kind of "hurry' to reveal the intentions of his heart to humankind. His face, especially his eyes, are in harmony with his heart. Joy. We have to learn and convey his joy.
