A Monk's Prayer for a Peaceful World

Mother of God ~ Bethlehem

Almighty God and Creator, You are the Father of all people on the earth. Guide, I pray, all the nations and their leaders in the ways of justice and peace. Protect us from the evils of injustice, prejudice, exploitation, conflict and war. Help us to put away mistrust, bitterness and hatred. Teach us to cease the storing of implements of war. Lead us to find peace, respect and freedom. Unite us in the making and sharing of tools of peace against ignorance, poverty, disease and oppression. Grant that we may grow in harmony and friendship as brothers and sisters created in your image, to Your honor and praise. Amen.

  1. We live in constant struggle to gain control, always finding ourselves in the inner battle with stress and anxiety. Focusing on prayers such as these can bring life to our souls, no matter what surrounds us on any given day. Our faith in God is able to bring security, so we're not overcome with fear, or find ourselves sinking down into a pit of worry. Just knowing He is there brings me peace and reassurance that there is something more than this crazy world in which we live.

  2. If we all believe in peace and prayers for the end of war, then who condones these terrible acts of vengeance of one nation to another. One religion against another? One brother against another? It all goes against humanity.

  3. Sad to say and there's no denying it, the "hands" of religion bloodied. But the most outrageous, bloody, deadly wars had atheists at the helm: Stalin and Hitler. And if ALL wars were somehow rooted in twisted religion, that shouldn't stop this monk from praying his peace prayer. Let's join him.
