Intercessions ~ Third Sunday in Lent

At the start of March,/ we pray for those who celebrate birthdays,/ anniversaries and other days of remembrance,/ asking good health,/ safety and peace./ We pray to the Lord.

A nation is weakened by polarization. / Heal those who divide and embitter./ May we find the peace no politics can provide./ We pray to the Lord.

Our nation thinks of itself as religious./ May that religion cause others to feel embraced./ May it lead us to moderation,/ mutual respect and humility./ We pray to the Lord.

As the light increases each day in our hemisphere these late winter days,/ grant that we would carry the light of faith,/ justice,/ goodness and love./ Brighten the dark places which might remain within us./ We pray to the Lord.

Turn the hearts of those who deal in blood money/ tainted money,/ or the money of institutionalized greed./ Give the nation the wisdom and courage needed to keep schools,/ churches,/ theatres,/ stadiums and public places safe./ We pray to the Lord.

We pray for those who are ill,/ those who will never be well again,/ or whose pain is beyond help./ Bless those who are sad,/ those who are disappointed/ or whose sorrow is beyond consolation./  We pray to the Lord.

Grant that our families and friends would be happy,/ healthy and protected from harm./ Strengthen those who are weak or in trouble./  We pray boldly that no one would feel abandoned or lonely./ May we feel a deep compassion for the friendless and the needy./ We pray to the Lord.
